What stories could be told about these 5 friends?

This is a picture of my Grandma Kate Hershberger Gerber and her Pals. Grandma is front right. I love the way she is holding the girl next to her, hand. Somehow the girl, who's name is Helen, looks like she wanted to run away and hide. Maybe it's her untidy, wind blown hair. I like to think that Grandma by holding on to her hand, is giving Helen the courage to stand with the other girls and have her picture taken. Maybe Helen was one of those girls who was part of the group, but maybe was kind of on the outside looking in? Wish I could ask Grandma. The other girls names are from back left to right, Mary, Callie and Mattie. I know because Grandma always wrote names on the back of her pictures! Way to think ahead Grandma! :)
