green week by beth
I can remember my Grandma Gerber saving waxed paper and tin foil to reuse. Also the cardboard pieces that panty hose were wrapped around in their packaging. She would save envelopes and any little piece of paper to write notes on, mostly grocery lists. Also she collected rainwater. This she used not only to water her plants, but also to wash her hair. She liked it better then the well water that they had. Both Grandmas would save left over material from sewing projects, and use them for quilts. My Grandpa Gerber wore bib overalls all the time. His old ones and his shirts Grandma would tear into strips. these strips were then taken to a lady who would weave them into rugs. I still have a couple of them. Both Grandmas were real good at patching jeans and overalls. Grandma Ruby had four boys, so I guess she got lots of practice! You didn't just run to the store to buy something new. You made do with what you had.

I had forgotten about collecting rainwater. My grandmother did that as well.
